Teeny dolly project and other rambles
I get to dress my Grandma's little carnival baby. She's only a little short of three inches tall, so it's going to be tricky, but I have some pregathered eyelet trim here that I think will make a good dress for her if I make neat little arm holes and fasten it in the back with a tiny snap. I've got knit material for a tiny pair of underpants, I think. This little one is going to be Grandma's sister doll, sister to my Molly and all the other sisterdolls.
I've got a couple of Baby So Beautiful dolls here for a young lady who lives in Singapoor, and I've been looking at them. They've got such fine dresses, and lovely hair, adorable faces, and stunning glass eyes. Truly beautiful dolls.
And I get bored just looking at them.
It's like their story is already all told and there's nothing left to do for them, except maybe wash their faces and make them new shoes. I guess the reason my dolls usually look like ragamuffin works in progress is because they are. For me, playing with the doll is working on it, finishing it up. And then most of the time after that I get bored of them and pass them on. But jointed ones like J'F hold my interest. What's not to love about a doll that you can take to peices whenever the whim should hit you, or that you can pose to 'emote' how you're feeling?
Heh, I'm also plotting to borrow my one sister's little tiny doll and play with it for awhile before I return it with a nice new dress and a little lilac bracelet. Tiny dolls are definately the story for me, even if making outfits for some of them can be a little trippy. Bitty stuff is coolness:D
I'm thinking of buying Molly a new dress. Something made for Kelly. And I'm playing with the idea of buying the Batgirl barbie doll and stealing her outfit for J'F so she's got something really cool to wear when the mood hits me. Then barbie can go bye bye.
Some of my sisters think I'm evil when it comes to dolls. I don't think so, but I know it's fun to see the looks on their faces when they see my works in progress or realize that the doll's been in the bag and has come along for the entire trip.
*Puts hands up in a shrug*
I keep thinking about the Diva Stars doll I saw at Value Village. I have an urge to get it and take it to peices.
Thank You for everything, Jesus!

I know what you mean. For me, it takes some sort of inner personality that the doll has that pulls me. It's not as simple as whether they have beauty or collectability or are hot on the market. I have to have a connection to the individual doll. I have seen so many that are breathtaking but don't pull me in any way. I think for the most part, dolls look scary to me! I shudder more than I sigh over a doll!

Yeah, I look at them and go "BORING!" Thousand dollar OOAK chinas, and all I can think of is that you can't play with it. Or I'm 0_o at the price and wondering WT? I know I'm no doll collector, and like you say, I shudder at most of the ones I see. Molly stayes with me because of our history, the little glass one is tiny and neato. J'F has those awsome joints and posibility. And the other dolls I'm playing with right now, the best part is I can give them back to their owners when I'm done with them! Lol.
